Medical Scheme Fees Tax Credits 2026/27

A fixed monthly tax credit for you and your dependants on a registered medical scheme -- it reduces the tax you pay, rand for rand. The 2026/27 amounts.

    Monthly tax credit (2026/27)

    First member (the principal) R376
    Second member (first dependant) R376
    Each additional dependant R254

    How it works

    • It is a credit, not a deduction -- it comes off the tax you owe directly
    • Example: principal + spouse + 2 children = R376 + R376 + R254 + R254 = R1,260 per month
    • Previous year (2025/26): R364 / R364 / R246
Guidance only -- not tax advice. Confirm the current amounts on the SARS Medical Tax Credits page at build, as flagged in the rate spine. An additional medical expenses tax credit may apply on top for some taxpayers. Verify at sars.gov.za.
