Work out the annual leave you're owed under the BCEA.

For employees and small employers who need to know how many days of paid annual leave have built up - and what that leave is worth in rand.

    Sound familiar?

    • “You are not sure how much paid leave you or your workers are entitled to.”
    • “Someone is leaving and you do not know how much leave to pay out.”
    • “You want to get annual leave right and stay on the BCEA's good side.”

    What this tool does

Works out your paid annual leave entitlement under the BCEA based on your working pattern, and what that leave is worth at your daily rate. Leave that builds up but is not taken must be paid out when you leave.

Optional - used to value your leave pay.

    What the law actually says

    • The Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997 (section 20) gives 21 consecutive days of annual leave on full pay each leave cycle - about 15 working days on a five-day week, or 18 on a six-day week. By agreement, leave can instead accrue at 1 day for every 17 days worked.
    • Leave is paid at your normal rate and must be paid before your leave starts (section 21). Any leave you have not taken must be paid out when your employment ends (section 40).
